national scientific council on the developing child

connecting policymakers with sound science

The Buffett Early Childhood Fund is supporting the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child in its efforts to bring sound and accurate science to bear on public decision making affecting the lives of young children. Now housed at the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, the Council seeks to build strong, informed, bipartisan leadership in both the public and private sectors in order to close the gap between what we know and what we do to promote successful learning, adaptive behavior, and sound physical and mental health for all young children. In part, the Council and the National Conference of State Legislatures are working together to better inform public policy decision-making within states.

The foundation also supports the National Forum on Early Childhood Program Evaluation, which also is housed at the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard. In addition, the foundation is supporting the work of James Heckman, the 2000 Nobel laureate in economic sciences.
